This is the first publication of Steven Holl's legendary water-colours. The 365 water-colours in diary form represent this famous and influential American architect's creative process. The water-colours show Steven Holl's highly individual methods, developed over many years and containing his first ideas and sketches for all major buildings and competition projects. Holl is known for his sculptural architecture and his genuine use of light, qualities ideally suited to water-colour technique. This highly artistic work by an architect makes a spectacular impression in the field of changing design techniques - the low-tech approach allows the artist to concentrate on inspiration and perception. Steven Holl, born in Bremerton, Washington, 1947, established Steven Holl Architects in New York in 1976. Holl is an honours graduate of the University of Washington. He studied architecture in Rome, Italy in 1970, and did postgraduate work at the Architectural Association in London in 1976.
