In our effort to discover a myriad of possibilities for spaces expressed by wooden structures, we have limited our attention to wood frame architecture (with structures made out of either wood or a mixture of wood and other materials), and have left out the cases where wood is used as either interior or exterior finishing material. Architects introduced here have tried to realize their design intentions through new systems for engineered wood, such as glulam and LVL. In this regard, wood functions as a key to design concepts, at the same time providing structural inspiration. How are public spaces designed by architects being reborn nowadays, in a time when new urban landscape should be portrayed through emotions and sensibilities on urban space? Space intends to examine how architects rediscover and reorganize spaces by exploring Seoul Metropolitan Government's 2007 City Gallery Project and the Han River Underground Passage Remodeling Plan, which has just been launched as part of the Han River Renaissance Project.
