Présentation de l'éditeur :

Paisea, having brought out ten issues, is now tackling a new subject, the periphery, a subject characterised above all by the controversy which arises when attempting to apply its definition to the spatial reality around us, something that we have been aware of ever since we decided to approach the topic.

Our choice of projects for this issue has been affected by this dilemma, as the term periphery can include several areas of a different nature; within the field of landscape architecture, peripheral spaces are understood in different ways by different people. In this issue we have tried to focus on the periphery that is closest to the city, on the boundary between what is built on and what is not, on those spaces which, in some way and due to certain temporary factors, have remained on this boundary which often takes on a residual, timeless nature.

The projects we are showing you here have therefore been chosen not only for their quality and their didactic capacity, but also for where they are located, in other words, for the way in which they have resolved their location on the edge of the city. We will see projects developed alongside motorways, ravines and tracks, or next to mountains that surround cities or that have even been absorbed by them. And we will also see boundary parks which play with their condition to become unifying elements between new spaces and those already in existence.

Alongside these projects there are several different articles and reports on different projects that have been carried out within the concept of periphery. From the numerous projects that the IBA (internationale bauausstellung) has been building for years in Germanic lands, to other projects and interventions carried out in our country, specifically the work done over the years in Collserola Park in Barcelona, or a study of the future green ring located around the city of Alicante.

And, to show the different readings offered by this subject, in our Cult Landscape section there is a magnificent photographic report produced and explained by Montserrat Soto, offering a range of information- packed pictures, helping us to reflect on the issue through its projects and articles.
