C3 303: HOUSE;PUBLIC VERSUS PRIVATE - WALL CRAFT

Six projects are introduced in this edition of C3 that challenge the concept of the house and its interaction with surrounding spaces. In this context Sou Fujimoto’s House before House, spbr arcquitetos’ House in Carapicuiba, and the Lampyris House by S+PBA are examined. Further, eight projects that have embraced unusual treatments of walls are examined, including Isay Weinfeld’s Midrash Cultural Center, Rio de Janeiro; Allies and Morrison Architects’ Multi-story Car Park in Sheffield; the design for 41 Cooper Square, New York by Morphosis; and, Baumschlager Eberle’s Nordwesthaus. The issue also includes reviews of newly announced projects and of the Museum of Atacama Desert by Coz-Polidura-Volante Arquitectos. All works are accompanied by colour photographs, plans, elevations and introductory texts.
