Présentation de l'éditeur :
The most western state of Austria has an architecture of its own.
Buildings in wood, and with them privately constructed buildings, are
popular. The detached house is here by far the most popular form of
housing.
Small, reasonably-priced housing developments with compact,
flat-roofed buildings and detached houses were therefore the first
building projects by which the team Baumschlager/Eberle could
distinguish themselves. Characteristic of the team’s architectonic
concept: strict economy with respect to material and
artistic/architectonic means and a high sense of cultural and social
responsibility. Baumschlager/Eberle are among the busiest architects in
Vorarlberg.
Since the middle of the eighties they have completed 150
projects and the scope of the building projects undertaken has vastly
widened. The team no longer plans just detached houses and small
housing developments: large multi-storied buildings, office blocks and
industrial buildings, schools, community centres, shopping centres and
even a hotel are among the projects realized.
This volume presents a
selection of the most important buildings undertaken during the last
ten years. The writer on architecture and director of the Architektur
Zentrum Wien, Dietmar Steiner, has written a knowledgeable introduction
and in an interview with the architects Liesbeth Waechter-Böhm
discusses in depth the statement of Dietmar Eberle, "Architecture is
the management of resources”.
